Daira Sabz Consulting and Engineering Group was honored with the ICIMOD Clean Air Prize 2023 (Third Prize) for its contribution to air quality improvement in Kabul. This recognition highlights our efforts in developing and implementing innovative solutions to address urban air pollution challenges in the city.

Our initiative focused on the installation of emission-reducing filters on heating systems in apartment buildings in Kabul, aimed at mitigating the impact of coal combustion on air quality. These filters, currently piloted in seven large residential buildings, have benefited over 780 residents by reducing fine particle emissions from household heating and cooking.

This initiative is part of our broader commitment to sustainable environmental solutions, combining technical expertise with cost-effective approaches. With a unit cost of USD 2,000–3,500, our filter technology provides a practical and scalable alternative to improving urban air quality at a competitive cost.

We appreciate ICIMOD’s recognition of this initiative and acknowledge the collective efforts of local stakeholders, technical experts, and community members in advancing solutions for cleaner air and healthier urban environments in Kabul, Afghanistan.
