Climate Smart Agriculture-Afghanistan

Norwegian Church Aid (NCA) collaborated with UNDP on the ABADEI 2.0 project to launch the PEARL initiative in Afghanistan, aiming to support marginalised communities through sustainable development, humanitarian efforts, and advocacy. Targeting Northern, Southern, and Eastern regions, PEARL’s goals include enhancing community participation, women’s empowerment, and ecosystem-based adaptation for resilient livelihoods.

Daira Sabz Development and Sustainability is an Afghan-owned Consulting company led and managed by a group of experts and professionals committed to the development of the country and increasing the sustainability of services, as well as the resilience of the communities in Afghanistan implemented the Climate Smart Agriculture Training of Trainers (TOT) and Non-Training of Trainers (Non-ToT) Training in north and south zones of the country.

The goal and objectives of the Training

The goal of these training sessions are to enhance understanding, skills, and adoption of climate-smart agricultural practices in the designated areas of the PEARL Project.

The objectives are as follows:

  • Training Objectives This capacity building aims to enhance understanding, skills, and the adoption of climate-smart agricultural practices within the PEARL Project areas.

  • The specific objective of the project is to:

    • Conduct training of trainers (TOT) on Climate-Smart Agriculture (CSA)

    • Conduct CSA Training for Women and Men farmers in the North and South Regions.

    • Development of Learning-Friendly Teaching and Learning Materials

Project Activities:

  • Conducted Training-of-Trainers (TOT) workshops on CSA for 80 male and 25 female trainers from Balkh, Kandahar, and Zabul provinces.
  • Delivered three-day, non-TOT CSA training sessions for a total of 355 farmers across 16 districts in Helmand, Kandahar, Zabul, Samangan, and Balkh provinces.
  • Developed and translated CSA training manuals into Dari and Pashto languages.

Project Location:

TOT workshops: Kandahar, Zabul, Balkh provinces (covering participants from 5 provinces)


Non-TOT trainings: 16 districts across Helmand, Kandahar, Zabul, Samangan, and Balkh provinces.

Outcomes:

  • Increased knowledge and skills in CSA practices among 355 farmers (including 80 trainers).
  • Enhanced capacity of local trainers to deliver future CSA trainings.
  • Availability of localized training materials (Dari and Pashto) for ongoing knowledge dissemination.
