Daira Sabz Consulting’s CEO delivered the opening remarks at the Regional Media Workshop on Reporting Environmental Issues in Bam-e-Dunya

Mr. Mustafa Hasani, CEO of Daira Sabz Environmental Consulting Services Company, delivered the opening remarks at the Regional Media Workshop on Reporting Environmental Issues in Bam-e-Dunya, highlighting critical challenges in the Hindu Kush Karakoram Pamir Landscape (HKPL) and the vital role of environmental journalism.

He began by acknowledging the vulnerability of the region’s people to climate change impacts, such as floods and droughts, led the loss of lives and livelihoods. Food and nutrition security is another growing concern due to limited ecosystem services and unsustainable resource utilization.

Mr. Hasani stressed the need for coordinated collaboration among various stakeholders, including government, civil society, the private sector, academia, and the media, to create more resilient social and ecological systems. He highlighted the pivotal role of environmental journalists in conveying environmental challenges to decision-makers and the importance of collective action for transboundary sustainability.

Furthermore, Mr. Hasani emphasized the role of journalists in translating technical environmental knowledge into accessible formats and local languages. He expressed gratitude for the workshop, anticipating that it would facilitate stakeholder discussions and the creation of climate-resilient narratives in the media.

He warmly welcomed all participants and thanked ICIMOD for organising the workshop and inaugurated two days of knowledge-sharing, collaboration, and capacity development in the realm of environmental journalism.
